Information we use

Minnen stores the information needed to run your account, such as your email address and authentication credentials. It also stores the reading and learning data you create while using the service, including readings you add, Private Reading Notes, saved language items, highlights, Article Review data, and review activity. If you join the Early Access waiting list, Minnen stores the email address you submit and the fact that you asked to be notified. If you submit product feedback, Minnen stores what you write and, when you are signed in or choose to provide it, your account email address. Minnen may also process limited technical and security information needed to operate, protect, and keep the service reliable.

How Minnen uses it

We use this information to run the product: to sign you in, save and sync your account-owned content, show your readings and saved items, schedule reviews, provide requested translation and AI-assisted reading features, and maintain security and reliability. A waiting-list submission is used only to notify you about the future Minnen availability you asked about. Feedback is used only to review and improve Minnen. Neither is used for advertising, and joining the waiting list is not a newsletter subscription or marketing consent. Minnen is currently in Early Access and uses Microsoft Clarity for product analytics and UX diagnostics only after you consent. Clarity may provide analytics, heatmaps, and session recordings. Minnen explicitly masks private reading text, Private Reading Notes, translations, Sentence Notes, Word Guide content, Article Review, and Quick Recall content from Clarity capture. You can reject analytics or later withdraw consent from this Privacy page. Minnen does not use advertising trackers or payment systems.

AI and external services

Minnen uses third-party service providers, including Google Cloud, to provide translation and AI-assisted reading features. Only the information needed to provide the requested feature is sent to those services. For example, sentence translation sends the sentence being translated. Contextual language help, Sentence Notes, examples, grammar help, and Article Review may process relevant reading context, such as selected text, article text, saved or study context, and the language you use for support. Private Reading Notes are private account content and are not sent to AI services for generation. If email delivery is configured, account emails such as confirmation and password-reset messages go through a third-party email delivery service.

Browser storage and cookies

Minnen uses a necessary session cookie to keep you signed in. It also uses account-scoped browser storage for product state and local cache, such as reading data, saved items, preferences, review state, and temporary session state. Your analytics consent choice is stored in this browser. Microsoft Clarity is not loaded before analytics consent. If you accept analytics, Clarity may use cookies or browser storage for analytics and UX diagnostics. If you reject analytics before Clarity has been enabled, it is not loaded at all. If you withdraw consent after Clarity was enabled, Minnen sends denied consent to Clarity. You can accept again later to enable Clarity. Clearing your browser storage removes Minnen's on-device cache for that browser, but it does not delete your server-side account.

The Minnen browser extension

The Minnen browser extension is off unless you enable it from the extension popup. The first time you turn Minnen on, Chrome asks you to grant access to websites so the extension can provide reading assistance on pages you visit. This website access is optional and can be managed through Chrome. When Minnen is on, hovering over an eligible word only highlights it locally on the page and does not send the word to Minnen. Clicking an eligible word requests Word Help. Choosing Save saves that word, and clicking Read in Minnen opens that page in Minnen. Turning Minnen off stops its word interaction and reading-assistance behavior on webpages. Word Help sends the clicked word, relevant surrounding text, its lemma if already known, and the language pair to Minnen to look it up. It does not send the page's URL or title as part of Word Help. Saving a word sends and stores more: the word itself, the page's URL and title, a bounded excerpt of the surrounding sentence for context, your current support language, and any lemma or translation the lookup already found. Read in Minnen sends only the current page's URL, so Minnen can open the same page there. Word Help is answered only from Minnen's own offline dictionaries. A word they do not contain is shown as not found; it is not sent to a translation or AI provider. AI-assisted features in Minnen, such as Meaning in this sentence, are separate and run only when you ask for them. The extension stores your Minnen on/off setting and one authentication credential locally in your browser, in the browser's own extension storage. The credential identifies your Minnen account when the extension makes these requests. It is not shared with the pages you visit and expires automatically; removing the extension or clearing its storage also removes it from your browser.

Your data and choices

You can edit or remove your Private Reading Notes and saved items from within Minnen. You can delete your account from Profile → Account. Account deletion removes your account and account-owned reading, learning, and review data, and clears that account's local browser namespace after deletion succeeds. A waiting-list request is independent of your account and is not removed when you delete it - it is the future-availability notice you asked for. Feedback you submitted is kept so it can still be reviewed, but account deletion removes its link to your account and email address. Some limited operational or security records may be retained where necessary for security, abuse prevention, legal obligations, or system integrity.

Your privacy rights

You can contact Minnen to ask about access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or other rights that may apply under data-protection law. If you are in the EU or EEA, you may also have the right to complain to your relevant data-protection authority.
