Learn language through reading.
Minnen is built around a simple idea: understanding comes before memorising. Instead of treating reading as a source of vocabulary to collect, Minnen keeps the text and its meaning at the centre. You can explore words and sentences when you need help, save useful language, and revisit it later through review and reflection. The goal is not to memorise more words in isolation. It is to understand what you read, remember language in context, and gradually need less help. Minnen is currently in Early Access.
Minnen's offline Swedish and Spanish dictionaries are built primarily from Wiktionary, the collaborative dictionary written by its volunteer contributors. The entries were extracted by Kaikki.org using Wiktextract, and Minnen has converted and filtered them for use in the app.
Wiktionary text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-SA 4.0) and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). Wiktionary-derived dictionary data used in Minnen remains under those terms.
When that data has no meaning for a Swedish word, English word help can show a translation from Folkets Lexikon, a Swedish-English dictionary, instead. Folkets Lexikon is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 Generic licence (CC BY-SA 2.5), and the Folkets Lexikon translations used in Minnen remain under those terms.
Swedish word forms are recognised with SALDO's morphology from Språkbanken Text, University of Gothenburg (DOI 10.23695/agcm-ny22), which Minnen converts into its own lookup database. SALDO's morphology is available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0).
